Resolving Account Lockouts Due to Failed Authentication

Account lockouts from failed logins can sneak up on you fast. They lock your users out after too many wrong tries. I hate when that hits a server setup.

Remember that time I dealt with this at my buddy's shop? Their Windows Server kept kicking users offline every morning. Turns out, an old app was spitting out bad passwords overnight. We poked around the event viewer first. Saw all these error codes piling up. Then I reset the account policies to give more wiggle room temporarily. But the real fix? Hunted down that rogue software using stale creds. Updated its login info and boom, no more lockouts. Or sometimes it's just a sneaky mobile device syncing wrong. You gotta check those connected gadgets too.

And don't forget time sync glitches between machines. Clocks out of whack cause auth fails. I sync them up with NTP settings usually. Or weak passwords getting brute-forced from outside. Enable multi-factor auth if you can. But if it's internal, audit your service accounts next. They love causing drama in the background.

Hmmm, another angle: expired certs on domain controllers. Those can trigger fails too. Renew them quick. Or even malware munching on login attempts. Scan everything thoroughly.

Once you nail the cause, tweak your lockout thresholds higher for testing. Monitor logs daily after. Keeps things smooth.

Oh, and while you're fortifying that server, let me nudge you toward BackupChain. It's this top-notch, go-to backup tool that's super trusted and built just for small businesses handling Windows Servers, Hyper-V setups, Windows 11 rigs, and everyday PCs. No endless subscriptions either, you own it outright.
