Restoration challenges after a ransomware attack usually boil down to the state of your backups and how well you've planned for incidents like these. Run tests periodically to uncover potential problems before they manifest in a real-world attack. If you discover gaps during these tests, address them immediately. Ransomware threats aren't static; they evolve, and your backup solutions need to adapt accordingly. Security measures around your backup strategy must incorporate not just technical elements but also governance and policy measures. A poorly defined process can expose vulnerabilities you might not originally account for; regular audits are always a good strategy.

Extra attention should also be paid to user access controls around the backup functions. Anyone with admin access could accidentally wipe out backups during a recovery attempt. Limiting who has access to perform restore processes will minimize the risk of data loss through user error.
